Founded through the efforts of Marcus Simaika Pasha, a prominent figure dedicated to preserving Coptic heritage, the museum's establishment was fueled by his passion for collecting antiquities and architectural elements from older churches undergoing restoration. The museum’s collection spans the history of Coptic Christianity, from its origins in Egypt to its rise as a major center of Christianity. Coptic Christianity traces its beginnings to Saint Mark’s visit to Alexandria in the 1st century A.D. The artifacts on display reflect a fascinating blend of Coptic art with Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman influences, showcasing the evolution of a distinct Coptic identity.
