Description

Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Cairo, followed by travel to Alexandria. Start at the Greek and Roman Museum, which houses artifacts from the 3rd century BC to the 7th century AD, including statues of Alexander the Great, relics of Roman emperors, and mummies from the Greek and Roman periods.

Next, explore the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, a subterranean necropolis combining Egyptian, Greek, and Roman art styles. The site features the Masterpiece Tomb and was discovered accidentally when a donkey fell through the ground.

Drive by Pompay’s Pillar and stop for photos. Then visit the Alexandria Library, the largest modern library in the world with around 8 million books. At the open court, see statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, originally found underwater in Cleopatra's sunken city. Within the library complex, visit the Saddat Museum and the Impressions of Alexandria Museum.

Note: The Alexandria Library is closed on Fridays and all public holidays.

Walk past the excavation site of the Old Roman City of Alexandria, including Roman villas, amphitheater ruins, and Alexandria’s Great Tomb excavation site. Entry inside these sites is not permitted; the visit is external only.

Optional lunch is available at a modern fish restaurant.

Visit Montazah Royal Palaces Gardens, formerly King Farouk’s residence, with views of his palace and surrounding beaches. Pass the Alexandria Unknown Naval Soldier Memorial and see Stanley Bridge, a prominent Mediterranean landmark. Visit Abbo Elabbas Mosque, the largest mosque in Alexandria, noted for its architecture and atmosphere.

Nearby, you can see an old funfair with antique rides and candy floss stands, the corniche, old harbor, and traditional fishing boats. The tour concludes with an exterior view of Qaitbay Castle, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
