Description
Your tour begins with pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a professional guide, followed by private transfer in an air-conditioned vehicle to Babylon Fortress. Built around 300 AD by Emperor Diocletian, Babylon Fortress is located on the eastern bank of the Nile Delta in present-day Old Cairo, also known as Coptic Cairo. The fortress historically protected the entrance to an ancient canal connecting the Nile with the Red Sea, an important trade route that involved tolls on river craft.
Within the fortress grounds lie the Coptic Museum, a convent, and several notable churches, including the Church of St. George and the Hanging Church. Old Cairo is recognized as a sacred place where the Holy Family is believed to have sought refuge, with the Church of Abu Serga (St Sergius) marking the traditional cave shelter. This area remains a pilgrimage site for both Egyptians and Christian visitors worldwide, characterized by a strong atmosphere of devotion.
During your visit to Old Cairo, you will see the Church of Abu Serga, St. Barbara Church, the Hanging Church, and the historic Ben Ezra Synagogue.
The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel.
