Description

After hotel pickup in Cairo, travel to Alexandria to begin your historical tour. Explore the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, a remarkable subterranean necropolis discovered by chance, showcasing a unique fusion of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman artistry.

Drive past Pompey’s Pillar with a photo stop, then visit the Library of Alexandria, the world’s largest library hosting around 8 million books. Explore the open court featuring statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, recovered from the underwater Sunken City of Cleopatra. Also visit the President Saddat Museum and Alexandria Museum located within the library.

Next, visit the Church of St. Mark, recognized as the oldest church in Africa. Walk along the excavation site of the Old Roman City to view Roman villas, Amphitheater ruins, and Alexandria’s Great Tomb from the outside, as entry is restricted.

Visit the Montazah Royal Palaces Gardens, formerly the summer residence of King Farouk. Photograph the royal palaces and nearby serene beaches once used by royalty.

Enjoy a scenic drive by two landmarks: the Alexandria Unknown Naval Soldier Memorial and Stanley Bridge, a notable Mediterranean coastal structure.

Visit Abbo Elabbas Mosque, Alexandria’s largest mosque, known for its intricate architecture and tranquil atmosphere. Nearby, observe children playing on antique funfair rides and traditional candy floss vendors.

Opposite the mosque, view the corniche and old harbor with fishing boats and fishermen mending nets. Finally, see Qaitbay Castle’s exterior, built on the site of the Ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the ancient world’s seven wonders.

• The Library of Alexandria is closed on Fridays and public holidays. The Reading Hall requires an additional ticket.
