Description
Your tour begins with hotel pickup in Cairo, followed by a drive to Alexandria. The first stop is the Catacombs of Kom El Shokafa, an underground necropolis discovered when a donkey fell through the earth. These tombs reflect the ancient city's unique blend of cultures.
Next, you will pass by Pompay’s Pillar and stop for photos before visiting the Library of Alexandria, the largest library in the world with around 8 million books. You can explore the open courtyard, featuring statues of Alexander the Great and Ptolemy I, retrieved from underwater excavations.
The itinerary includes visits to the President Sadat Museum and the Impressions of Alexandria Museum. You will then see the Church of St. Mark, the oldest church in Africa, and drive through Alexandria’s old downtown to observe Baroque, Italian, and French architectural influences.
A walking tour will take you past the excavation site of the old Roman city, including views of Roman villas, amphitheater ruins, and the Great Tomb excavation site. Interior access is not permitted, but your guide will provide historical context.
The tour continues to Abbo Elabbas Mosque for a photo stop, alongside an adjacent vintage funfair. Opposite is the corniche and old harbor where you can observe traditional fishing activities and boat making. You will also see the exterior of Quaitbay Castle, built on the site of the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria.
Finally, visit Montaza Gardens, known locally as the Love Garden, with royal gardens once belonging to King Farouk. Walk along Montaza Bridge to Tea Palace island and view the royal beaches once frequented by queens. On the return journey, stop briefly at the King of Mango juice stand and at the Unknown Soldier memorial.
The route covers approximately 25 km, including views of the old harbor with its underwater monuments. Montaza Palace and gardens are key tourist areas known for their beaches, parks, and scenic corniche walks.
