Itinerary
Day 1: Pyramids, Egyptian Museum, and Old Cairo
You will be picked up from your hotel by a Sun Pyramids Tours representative. Visit the Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren, and Mykerinus, followed by the Great Sphinx, associated with the Pyramid of Chefren. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Egyptian Museum, home to over 5,000 years of Egyptian art and artifacts.
Later, explore Coptic Cairo, including the Hanging Church, Ben Ezra Synagogue, Church of St. Barbara, and Church of Abu Serga. Return to your hotel at the end of the day.
Day 2: Islamic Cairo Tour
Pickup from your hotel by air-conditioned vehicle to visit the Mosque of Ahmed Ibn Tulun. Begin a walking tour starting from Bab Zuwayla through Street of Muezz, viewing Al Khayammeyah, the Mausoleum of Sultan al-Mu’ayyad Shaykh, Sabil-Kuttab of Tusun Pasha, and Al-Azhar Mosque.
Continue walking from Bab el-Fotouh gate to Khan el-Khalili bazaar, known for its variety of goods where bargaining is expected. After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Madrasa and Mausoleum of Sultan al-Mansur Qalawun, Madrasa-Khanqah of Sultan Barquq, the Museum of Textiles, and Al-Aqmar Mosque. See an example of an old Cairo house before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Alexandria Day Trip
Pickup at your hotel for a day trip to Alexandria. First stop is Pompey’s Pillar, built in honor of Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century, originally part of the Temple of Serapis. Next, visit the Catacombs, the largest Roman cemetery carved into rock on three levels.
After lunch at a local restaurant, visit the Qaitbay Citadel, constructed on the site of the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria, then the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. Note that the Alexandria library is closed on Fridays; on those days, you may visit the Roman Theater instead. Return to your hotel in Cairo afterwards.
