Description

Start your day with a morning pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza in a private air-conditioned vehicle. Meet your professional Egyptologist guide and head off to discover the deep spiritual heritage of the city. Begin your journey in Islamic Cairo, starting with the beautifully restored Al-Hakim Mosque, one of the most historic and intriguing Islamic landmarks in the city. Learn about its mysterious ruler, Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, who took power at the age of 11 and became known for both his intellect and eccentric rule. Continue to the impressive Qalawun Complex, a masterpiece of Mamluk architecture. Built in the 13th century, the complex once included a hospital, a madrasa, and a mausoleum. Admire the decorative stucco, intricate mashrabiya woodwork, and learn about the legacy of Sultan Qalawun. Then, shift into a different era as you enter Coptic Cairo—a place of quiet alleys, ancient churches, and profound significance. Your first stop is the Church of St. George (Mar Girgis), one of the few round churches in Egypt, dramatically perched above a Roman tower and connected to a monastery below. Next, visit the iconic Hanging Church, also known as Saint Virgin Mary’s Church. Built above a Roman gate, this basilica-style church houses over 100 icons, some dating back to the 8th century. Your guide will share stories of early Christianity in Egypt and explain the symbolism behind the architecture and art. At the end of your tour, enjoy a freshly prepared Egyptian lunch at a local restaurant. When you’re ready, your driver will take you back to your hotel, completing a day filled with spiritual richness, architecture, and centuries of faith.
