Zaki El Sammak – An Authentic Seafood Gem in the Heart of Cairo If you have been searching for real seafood in Cairo, look no further. A friend recommended Zaki El Sammak to me about a year ago, and after relying on their delivery service for months, I finally decided to visit the restaurant in person to experience the full menu. The Atmosphere Located in Old Cairo near the Italian Embassy, the area is bustling and surrounded by vintage clothing shops. I’ll be honest—I was a bit skeptical upon arrival, but the moment I stepped inside, my mind changed. The restaurant has been operating since the early 1920s, and it carries a genuine, historic vibe that you just don't find in modern chains. It is small, intimate, and full of character. The Food Despite Cairo not being a coastal city, they are doing seafood exactly right. Simply put: if you’ve eaten elsewhere in Cairo, you haven't truly had seafood until you’ve eaten here. Must-Try Dishes: You absolutely must order the eggplant; it is exceptional. Fish: They prepare fish in a variety of ways, but I highly recommend the grilled with rada and the sengary. Shrimp: The butterfly shrimp is a standout—it will take your taste buds to another place. Sides: Both the soup and the rice are excellent. Pro Tip: If you love bread, make sure to ask them to bring it to your table hot! Service & Experience The service is good and attentive. And special thanks to Mr. Saeed While the location is tucked away in a busy part of the city, the quality of the food and the history of the establishment make it well worth the trip. If you are a seafood lover, this place is non-negotiable. It’s the best in town, period.
